United Karate Budokan International (UKBI) stands as a symbol of dedication, discipline, and unwavering loyalty to traditional martial arts values. Founded by four highly respected senior karate masters — Ananda Devadiga, M. Suresh, Balakrishna Alva, and Prabhakar Kunder — the organization was established with a clear vision: to preserve, promote, and carry forward the authentic teachings and philosophy of Budokan Karate. These founders are among the few privileged disciples who received their black belts and advanced Dan grades directly under the guidance of the legendary Grandmaster Chew Choo Soot, founder of Karate Budokan International, Malaysia.
Karate Budokan International is a globally recognized karate system founded by Grandmaster Chew Choo Soot, whose vision was to create a unique style integrating powerful techniques, discipline, and character development. Budokan is distinguished by its emphasis on practical self-defense, traditional values, physical conditioning, and mental fortitude. In India, Budokan found strong roots through pioneering masters — the late Hanumantha Rao and Praveen Kumar — whose contributions laid a strong foundation for generations of karate practitioners in India.
Following the unfortunate demise of these stalwarts, senior masters Ananda Devadiga, M. Suresh, Balakrishna Alva, and Prabhakar Kunder came together and founded UKBI — a conscious and principled movement to uphold the traditions, ethics, and technical standards imparted by Grandmaster Chew Choo Soot. It was founded on the belief that martial arts should remain faithful to the principles of one's lineage and style.
What makes UKBI unique is its steadfast commitment to a single martial art system. In an era where many practitioners move between styles or create hybrid systems, UKBI remains firmly loyal to Budokan Karate. The founders believe that true mastery comes from depth rather than variety, and that lifelong dedication to one style allows practitioners to fully absorb its philosophy, technical nuances, and spirit.
Under the guidance of its founding masters, UKBI conducts regular classes, grading examinations, seminars, workshops, referee training, instructor development programs, and championships. Students are encouraged to develop not just physical fitness and combat skills, but qualities such as patience, resilience, humility, leadership, and respect.
Today, United Karate Budokan International represents more than an organization — it represents continuity, loyalty, and the living legacy of Budokan Karate. Built upon the vision of its founders and the teachings of the Grandmaster, UKBI continues its journey with purpose and conviction, dedicated to producing not just skilled karateka, but responsible individuals shaped by the enduring values of martial arts.
